SERP Editor & Analyzer (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension made by Martijn Jeurissen, Golden SEO Protocol. This policy explains which data the extension handles and what it does with it.
1. Data the extension reads
The Google search results page you have open (google.* /search). When you open the panel, the extension reads the visible content of that page in your browser: search features, result titles, descriptions, URLs and their position on the page. It uses this to show the analysis in the panel and to let you edit result text on the page. The page content is not stored and not sent anywhere.
The URL of the current tab, only when you click the extension icon, to decide whether to open the panel or show the search form.
Only when you use “Search from another location” and type a place name: that place name is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) to look up its coordinates, which are then added to the Google search URL. Before this feature can be used for the first time, the extension shows a notice and asks for your confirmation. Only the typed text is sent, only when you use this feature. OpenStreetMap’s privacy policy applies to that request: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy
2. Data the extension stores
Your settings: client profiles (a client name, your own domains and competitor domains to highlight), your last used search settings (country, language, location), the on/off state of mobile emulation, and whether you have confirmed the location lookup notice. These are stored in Chrome’s own extension storage on your device.
Your edits to result text, stored per search query in the browser’s local storage so they are still there after a page reload.
A local cache of place-name lookups, so the same place is not requested twice.
No personal data is stored.
3. What the extension does not do
It does not collect, transmit, sell or share personal data, search history, page content or the analysis it produces.
All analysis and editing happens locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to Golden SEO Protocol. The only outside request is the optional place-name lookup described above.
It does not use analytics, tracking, cookies or advertising.
It does not fetch search results automatically. It only reads pages you open yourself.
4. Permissions
Access to google.* /search pages: to read and annotate the results page you are viewing. The extension does not run on other sites.
Access to nominatim.openstreetmap.org: for the optional place-name lookup.
Storage: to remember your settings, client profiles and edits.
activeTab: to open the panel on the tab where you clicked the extension icon.
declarativeNetRequest: only for the optional “Mobile emulation” setting, which sets a mobile browser identifier on Google Search requests so Google returns the mobile layout. It is off by default and is removed when you switch it off or close the browser.
5. Data retention and removal
Settings, client profiles and edits stay in your browser until you remove them in the extension or uninstall the extension. Removing the extension deletes all data it stored.
6. Changes to this policy
If the extension starts handling data differently, this page will be updated and the date above will change.
